Final Results - IJGT Bridgestone Series at Greate Bay

Berman Takes Home Series Championship

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to the beautiful Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, N.J., March 30-31 to host the Bridgestone Series at Greate Bay. With strong winds and fast greens, the 60 competitors were in for a challenge over Easter weekend. Some of the top juniors in the northeast part of the country battled for the title as well as IJGT Merit Points and national recognition over the two-day, 36-hole Event

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Cole Berman of Rosemont, Pa., carded a tournament-low 1-over-par 71 in the first round of play. Berman's exceptional first round play also earned him the KENTWOOL Socks Lo-Pro honors, which is given to the player who has the lowest first round score. The fast greens and fierce wind were not a problem for Berman, as he sank two deep birdie putts on the back nine, which gave him a six-stroke cushion heading into Sunday's final round. Berman carried his exceptional play into Sunday, which earned him his second IJGT Title of the season after carding an 8-over-par 148.

"I definitely played more aggressive in my first round," Berman said. "I just wanted to maintain my lead from Saturday and I ended up coming out with the win."

Second-place finisher Mark Benevento of Somers Point, N.J., had a great weekend on his home course, shooting a 159 after two rounds. Rounding out the top 3 in the Boys 15-19 Division was Stefan Cygan of Middlesex, N.J., and Cody Dazen of Shamong, N.J., who both carded a tournament 161.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, William Thomson of Pittsford, N.Y., overcame a three-stroke deficit heading into Sunday to capture his amazing fifth IJGT title of the season. Thomson's great play on Sunday also earned him Clazic Belts Low Final Round honors, which is given to the player who cards the lowest final round score. Thomson overtook first-round leader Jake Sollon of Venetia, Pa., on the back nine bysinking two tough birdie putts to put him in the lead. After Thomson's clutch play on Sunday he carded a weekend 157 after two rounds.

"I played very solid on the front nine," Thomson said. "But I had to play more aggressive on the back and sink some birdie putts."

Finishing second place in the Boys 14 & Under Division was Jake Mayer of Scotch Plains, N.J., carding a tournament total of 163. Sollon finished in third place with a tournament score of 165.
Eunwon Park of Tenafly, N.J., took home the Girls Division title after she carded a 165 over the weekend. Her first round 82 earned her KENTWOOL Socks Lo-Pro honors, and gave her the momentum going into the final round.

"I just wanted to play it safe {going into the second round}," said Park.

The second round was an exciting one, with Raphaella Kang of Bayside, N.Y., making a move at the top spot of the leaderboard after carding a 81 in her second round. Her final-round score earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award in the Girls Division, but it was not enough to win the championship, as Park's two birdies on the back nine were just enough to capture her first IJGT title.

Kang took second place after she carded a tournament score of 168. Greate Bay Country Club member, Erin DiDonato of Hammonton, N.J., finished third with a tournament score of 170.

The IJGT will travel to Hummelstown, Pa., on March 30-31 for the IJGT Junior at Hershey Links Golf Club. This Event will feature top players from across the northeast competing for national recognition and IJGT Merit Points.
